Benefits
of Mulch
There are many benefits to mulching landscape beds, shrubs and trees. Perhaps most beneficial,
from a tree's perspective, is the use of organic mulch that enriches the soil as it breaks down through decomposition.
Landscape
soils are very different from woodland soils where trees grow naturally. Landscape plants around newer homes are growing
on compacted, infertile subsoil exposed during construction. Many landscapes include large lawn areas and over time
grasses change the soil by raising the pH and encouraging colonization by grass-friendly microorganisms. This works
well for grasses, however, woody plants need a lower soil pH and "tree-friendly" microbes.
Mulching
creates an environment that is more like the natural woodland floor, yet is more attractive. As the mulch breaks down,
soil pH is lowered and the nutrients and microorganisms that trees depend on are released. Shredded bark, landscape
bark mulch, or wood chips from exotic trees (such as Red Cedar) do not supply all that our native and landscape trees and
shrubs require.
Why import? Native mulch made from local trees is better!
The benefits
you can expect will come from using of our Premium Landscape Mulch as: landscaping mulch, yard mulch, flower bed mulch, garden
mulching, and mulching under trees.
Give your trees what they need - incorporate a bit of the local forest
floor into your landscape soil!
Premium Organic Mulch
The
Premium Organic Mulch that Owen Tree Service produces comes from local trees, shrubs, brush and wood chips, which are re-ground
and aged to a chocolate brown color. It is ideal for landscape use and provides a nutritional benefit to your landscape
garden soils. Considered the best mulch, it is very easy to move and work with.
We recommend using
our mulch as a mulching base layer to stop weed growth, retain soil moisture and return organic nutrients to the soil. Then
install a thin, cap-layer of your favorite bark mulch, cedar mulch, rubber mulch, red mulch, black mulch, pine mulch, or cypress
mulch to obtain the look and texture desired.
Certified Playground Mulch
The
Certified Playground Mulch that Owen Tree Service produces is certified for safe use on playgrounds and playscapes.
It has passed impaction, compaction, and wheelchair accessibility tests, meeting or exceeding the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F1292-04 and F1951-99 standards.
