Owen Tree Service arborist Abdon Leon-Espinosa recently demonstrated professional competency by successfully completing the certified arborist examination administered through the International Society of Arboriculture.

Started in 1992, the ISA Certified Arborist credential has become a trusted and recognized symbol of professionalism and accepted by commercial, municipal and residential tree owners that care about properly maintaining their trees.

Since its introduction the ISA Certified Arborist credential has easily obtained its goal of raising the standards of the tree care profession. Most commercial, municipal and residential tree owners that view their trees as assets know to seek out an ISA Certified Arborist to take care of their trees.

Before even taking the ISA Certified Arborist test an applicant is required to have at least three years of practical, full-time experience performing tree pruning, tree fertilization, tree planting, tree diagnosis, or providing insect & disease control treatments. In lieu of practical experience an applicant could apply to take the ISA Certified Arborist test if they have a two-year degree in a tree related field & two years of practical experience or a four-year degree in a related field and one year of practical experience.

Additionally, maintaining the Certified Arborist designation requires the individual to obtain 30 hours of continuing education credits over three years in subjects such as tree installation and establishment, tree problem diagnosis, insect & disease control treatments, and tree pruning, among other tree care related topics.

Abdon is currently a tree care foreman and has worked full time for Owen Tree since 2011. Abdon has done landscaping, tree pruning and tree removal on residential, commercial and municipal properties.
