Effective Mosquito Control for a Bite-Free Yard

Mosquitoes and their bites can be a major nuisance, especially when you're trying to enjoy outdoor spaces or host events. While completely eradicating mosquitoes isn’t feasible, reducing their population to manageable levels is a more practical goal. Owen Tree Service offers a Mosquito Control Program designed to create a protective barrier around your yard, significantly reducing mosquito activity.

Our mosquito control options include a season-long program with up to five treatments, starting in late May or early June and spaced at 4-6 week intervals. We also offer one-time treatments for special events like graduation parties or weddings. Our services are available for residential homes, commercial properties, municipalities, and property management companies.

How Our Mosquito Control Works

Michigan is home to several mosquito species, and populations peak at different times throughout the season. Some species are known to transmit diseases such as West Nile virus, Eastern Equine encephalitis, and heartworm in dogs. Female mosquitoes need a blood meal before laying eggs, and they often rest in shady, moist areas during the day. They can travel several miles from breeding sites, seeking hosts in your yard.

Our Mosquito Barrier Treatments target trees, shrubs, lawns, and shaded areas, including the soil under decks if accessible. As mosquitoes pass through treated areas, they come into contact with the solution, helping to control the population in your yard. This treatment reduces not only mosquito bites but also the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

Preventing Mosquitoes in Your Yard

You can take steps to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and reduce bites in your yard:

  1. Use mosquito repellent when spending time outside.
  2. Wear light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and long pants.
  3. Ensure doors and windows have screens, and repair any damaged ones.
  4. Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes breed. For example:
  • Empty containers that collect water, such as recycling bins, tires, boats, and tarps.
  • Keep gutters clean and draining properly.
  • Maintain clean and chlorinated swimming pools, and turn over children's pools when not in use.
  • Aerate ornamental ponds or stock them with goldfish to eat mosquito larvae.
  • Dump standing water from birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, and other items at least twice a week.
  • Don’t leave pet bowls filled with water for more than two days.

By following these steps and using Owen Tree Service’s mosquito control treatments, you can significantly reduce mosquito populations and enjoy your outdoor space without constant bites.
