In many cases, the issue is related to soil pH and can be successfully managed with professional treatment.

Why Are My Pin Oak Trees Turning Yellow?

One of the most common questions Auburn Hills homeowners ask about their landscape trees is, "Why are my pin oak leaves turning yellow?" While yellowing foliage can be caused by several factors, one of the most frequent culprits in pin oaks is a condition known as iron chlorosis.

What Is Iron Chlorosis?

Iron is an important micronutrient that pin oak trees need to produce chlorophyll, the substance responsible for giving leaves their healthy green color. Because the iron is delivered directly into the tree, results are generally more reliable and longer lasting.

Is It a Permanent Fix?

Unfortunately, iron chlorosis caused by high soil pH is an ongoing site condition. Since the soil chemistry remains unchanged, the tree will often require periodic treatment to maintain healthy green foliage.

In most cases, homeowners should expect the trunk injection treatment to last for two to three years, depending on the severity of the chlorosis, soil conditions, and overall tree health.
