Powdery Mildew is a persistent challenge for homeowners in Capac, Michigan who often find themselves battling this fungal disease. This seasonal disease is characterized by white, talcum-like growths on leaves and stems and can affect a wide range of plants, from ornamentals to vegetables.

In Capac's climate, powdery mildew thrives during periods of high humidity and moderate temperatures, typically between 60-80°F. The fungus spreads through airborne spores, quickly colonizing susceptible plants and potentially causing stunted growth and sometimes leaf distortion. Prevention is key in managing powdery mildew.

Capac homeowners can do a variety of preventive measures for powdery mildew:
1.    Choose resistant plant varieties when possible
2.    Improve air circulation by proper spacing and pruning
3.    Water at the base of plants, avoiding wet foliage
4.    Remove and dispose of infected plant material

For severe cases of powdery mildew, fungicides should be applied early in the infection cycle. While results can be variable, our ISA Certified Arborists can identify the presence of powdery mildew and set up a treatment plan to help reduce the infection on your landscape plantings.
